About the Author

I’m Jennifer Carr. I’m a wife, homeschooling mom, baker, part-time farmer, social media addict, and an avid reader. I’m a lover of coffee, music, learning, animals, and writing.

I have a degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Marriage & Family Counseling, and certifications in Life Coaching, Health and Wellness Coaching, and am a certified Brain Health Professional. I also taught high school AP Psychology for several years.

I’ve always loved writing. Complete transparency alert – I never set out to become an author. I know, that probably sounds unlikely considering, but it’s true. I sat down one day and decided I wanted to write a story because I needed to know how a dream I’d awoken from ended. It snowballed and turned into chapters and eventually into an entire book. When I finished that book, I needed to make sure my characters were OK and thriving so I wrote the second book.

It was at that point I realized that being an author was something I could see myself doing for a really long time. So, I’m still writing and loving every minute of it. When I’m not writing, there’s a good chance I’m reading and drinking coffee!

More from Jennifer

Wrapped Up in You is book two of the Real American Country Series. But don’t worry, it can definitely be read as a standalone! The series follows a reality television country music competition and some of the contestants as they pursue their dreams of becoming country music recording artists. This book follows the story of Nash Montgomery and Cassidy Raye Stanton as they each navigate the pressures of the spotlight. They’ll each have to decide if they’re chasing their own dreams—or someone else’s. And along the way, they’ll discover that getting wrapped up in the right person can bring out the best in themselves.

Wrapped Up in You is a heartwarming tale about breaking free from the expectations of others, finding love, and discovering that the best path is the one you create for yourself.

One of my favorite things about writing this series is coming up with custom playlists for each book. If you love country music or just want to see what all the fuss is about, here’s the playlist that goes along with Wrapped Up in You: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2hXjkRFytj9tPFpitHRdEf?si=d0209225ac1f41e0

Interview

What things molded your desire to write a novel?

I have always loved writing. I was scribbling really bad poetry on paper as early as fourth grade. I actually stumbled across some of it when we cleaned out our attic a few years ago and it was embarrassing and hilarious to say the least. And no, it will never see the light of day again! HA! HA!

But, writing has always been a natural way for me to process my thoughts and emotions. I entered and won multiple writing and oratorical contests all throughout middle and high school. I did not, however, know that I could write a book and love doing it until 2021.

I sat down one day and decided I wanted to write a story because I needed to know how a dream I’d awoken from ended. It snowballed and turned into chapters and eventually into an entire book (No Matter What). When I finished that book, I needed to make sure my characters were OK and thriving so I wrote the second book (The Lost and Found).

Now I’ve written ten books, four are currently published, and there are seven actively in the pipeline, all in different states of progress!

Is your book part of a series?

Wrapped Up in You is in fact part of a series. It is Book 2 of the Real American Country Series. This story as well as the other four (one published, three currently in the queue with my editor) can be read as standalones. Fun fact: Book 1 (Fall When You’re Ready) was originally going to be a standalone.

What I love about writing a series is that everything that happens in Book 1 happens in Book 2 but we’re seeing it all happen from different perspectives of different characters. It was really fun to write but I won’t lie and say keeping up with the dates, timelines, and plotlines was easy. There were days I felt like the conspiracy theorist with the bulletin board and red strings haphazardly connecting things.

"Real American Country" is a New Adult Contemporary Romance series set in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. The series follows the lives of aspiring country music artists competing in a reality TV show. Each book focuses on different participants whose paths cross in life-changing ways. This series blends intense personal stories with the charm and nostalgia of country music.

What are you currently working on?

I literally just typed The End for the last book of the RAC series in October and am starting a spin-off series that has the working title Montana Hearts. It picks up with one of the contestants from RAC who is from Montana.

It won’t be a very interconnected series after the first book because I like to think all of the characters from RAC are off living their HEAs and chasing their dreams! But I can’t promise there won’t be a cameo or two here and there. But it’s still really early in the works!

What do you wish you knew before you started writing?

I wish that I had understood that I’m not writing my books for every single reader. This is going to sound like a “woe is me” kind of answer, but I promise, it’s not!

Authors, especially self-published authors like myself, rely on reviews and word-of-mouth more heavily than any other form of marketing. What I knew but didn’t understand is that not every person who picks up my books is going to like them and rate them the way I would.

After my very first book (No Matter What) got its first (and so far only) 2-Star rating I heavily questioned if I was even cut out to write. That rating was amidst so many other good ratings and reviews. But it stood out and echoed loudly in my thoughts on repeat and I immediately doubted my ability to write a good book. So I kind of battled those rollercoaster emotions for a proverbial minute.

I had to learn to take my author hat off and put my reader hat on and remember that there are books that I didn’t enjoy that plenty of other people did. Now I write the stories that I love and I just hope that they find their way into the hands and Kindles of other readers who love them, too.

Share something funny that’s happened to you.

This happened at the beginning of 2024 and I still think about it and panic every time I order at Chick-Fil-A.

We have a family Chick-Fil-A account so we can earn all the points in one place. My husband’s name is Rob and we use RobAndJen for a lot of our joint account names. It makes it easier to know which order is ours when they call it out from the counter of whatever establishment we’re at.

I went to breakfast with one of my friends and had ordered from the Chick-Fil-A app before arriving. This particular restaurant has the Pick Up shelf for mobile orders and it was empty so we took a seat. We’re sitting at the table awaiting our names to be called and hers was called, another name was called, and still another name was called. I checked the app and it said my order was ready. It had been about ten minutes, which is an outlandish amount of time to wait at this particular Chick-Fil-A for a breakfast burrito and a coffee. But they hadn’t called my name and I was enjoying my friend’s company so I had waved it off as no big deal.
I finally go to the counter and tell the manager my predicament. He picks up a bag and asks, “Are you Count Chocula?”

I stood there and stared at him completely confused before I blurted, “Do I look like Count Chocula?”

He laughed and I told him what the order was and that it should be under the name RobAndJen. The order matched mine so of course I went back to the app and checked the Profile tab. Sure enough, my husband thought it would be funny to change the name for the account to Count Chocula. We laughed and he offered to make a new burrito but I was too mortified to take him up on it.

I now do regular checks before announcing who the mobile order is for when I go to Chick-Fil-A.
