Drandar is the dragon that has been prophesied. He will help the king build a strong, safe kingdom as one of his faithful knights. But Drandar doesn’t seem to fit what a knight should be or even what a real dragon should look like. He’s what Seraphina calls a “late bloomer.” Drandar is droopy, discouraged, and doubting. Will he ever become the knight he’s supposed to be?

Interview

If you could give advice to a newbie writer, what would it be?

Read, write, and pray. Read as much as you can to learn what makes a story great and how it flows. Write daily if possible. It’s like exercising a muscle. Keep it active and strong even if you write really bad stories along the way. Keep writing. Pray for God to inspire your heart and to help you know his plan. Sometimes God calls us to write for different reasons. Not all writers fit in the same box.

Do you use humor at all in your writing?

I do use humor in most of my writing. However, I also write devotional and Bible study materials for adults and don’t use as much humor in those. I find life funny, and I see the irony in so many things. I love to include that in my books.

Give us an insight into your faith in the Lord.

I became a Christian when I was seven years old. Jesus changed my life in a very real way even then, and I think that is why I feel so passionate about writing for parents and children. God uses any life surrendered to him. We don’t have to wait until we’re adults to serve the Lord, minister, and bless others. God is so good, and he has so many wonderful opportunities for us to bless others and to tell them about his salvation. Children can begin making a difference even while they are little.

Is your book part of a series?

Yes. The second Drandar story should be out next year. I also have a Bible study for kids that goes along with Drandar the Dragon Knight. It’s called Discovering the Knight’s Code.

When you aren’t writing, what do you enjoy doing?

I love art. I create jewelry, paint, and create mini books. Mini books are little boxes shaped like books that I build miniature scenes in. Creating is fun, and I love it. If I’m not creating, I’m usually hanging out with my family or friends. We are getting ready to move to Thailand as missionaries, and I want to spend as much time as I can with everyone before we leave.
