About the Author
Historical Christian Romance author, Jennifer Lynn Cary, likes to say you can take the girl out of Indiana, but you can’t take the Hoosier out of the girl. Now transplanted to the Arizona desert, this direct descendant of Davy Crockett and her husband of forty years enjoy time with family where she shares tales of her small-town heritage and family legacies with their grandchildren. She is the author of The Crockett Chronicles series, The Relentless series, and The Weather Girls trilogy as well as the stand-alone novel, Cheryl’s Going Home, her novella Tales of the Hob Nob Annex Café, and her split-time novels The Traveling Prayer Shawl and The Forgotten Gratitude Journal. Judy in Disguise is the first book of her spin-off series The Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue.
More from Jennifer
Have you ever been to a party and had so much fun you hated to leave? That’s how I felt when I finished up The Weather Girls. I fell in love with the characters and the memory lane saunter through my hometown of Kokomo, Indiana.
Then, chatting with a good writing friend, I realized I could have a spin-off series where Ferguson House, the business, and of course the cardinal and the sycamore tree all play a part.
The friends from the original series could drop by the stories, but these would be stand-alones. I also wanted to make these stories fun as well as heartwarming.
Then I had the question–where to get the story inspirations?
The same place I got it for Sunny, Stormy, and Windy—the oldies station.
That’s when I Googled song titles from the 60s that had girls’ names in them. When “Judy in Disguise” popped up, I knew it had to be the first of the new Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue series. The story ideas came fast and furious.
I am so excited about this new series, and I hope you will be too as familiar song titles get new plot points. Come join me at the Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue.

What is the genre you write? Technically, I write Christian Historical Romance. However, I’m carving out a niche that I call “retro.” It’s that time period from the late 1950s through the 1970s. The people who lived through this time, Baby Boomers, remember and enjoy it while others who are younger pick up on trends or fads and enjoy reading about that. There is enough similarity to contemporary because there are TVs and radios and phones, but it is definitely historical since those devices have come a long way since those days. There is a wealth of information and all sorts of YouTube videos of old shows and commercials and things. Gotta tell you, it is fun doing the research.
Sounds interesting. What advice can you give to writers trying to break into the publishing world? Don’t try to do this all alone. Conferences can get expensive, but there are plenty of groups out there. No one else understands about this business the way another author will. And it is so helpful to have a critique partner or a brainstorming buddy, people you can trust. For me, I feel like I need a mentor who is on the road ahead for guidance, a few trustworthy peers to share with and hold me accountable, and one or two just starting out to offer a hand. There’s stamina in numbers. Find your tribe. It will make all the difference.
Great advice. What do you plan to work on next? The next book in the Weather Girls Wedding Shoppe and Venue series is written and awaiting edits—Sylvia’s Mother. I’ve started writing book three, Runaround Sue, and would really like to write book four, Cracklin’ Rosie, before the end of the year, but I’m thinking I might have to wait until after the first. Sylvia’s Mother is slated for release in February 2023, Runaround Sue should launch in May, and you can watch for Cracklin’ Rosie this coming August.
Great. If you could vacation anywhere, where would you go? That’s easy. A few years ago, I had the chance to go to Ireland and I fell in love with the place. I would love to return. A friend told me before I went that it was like going home again for the first time. I didn’t understand that until I went. She was right.
How fun. Where can readers connect with you? I love to connect with readers through my website. https://www.jenniferlynncary.com That’s easiest place since all the links to my social media platforms are there. Plus, you can get a free ebook novella if you choose to join my newsletter family. That’s where I share the latest news and some cool goodies—like, you might have noticed that I refer to a lot of music in my books. I’ve started creating playlists on Spotify and sharing the links in my newsletters. You’ll find all the songs as well as some other cool things like TV show themes and a few other surprises. It’s a lot of fun and I only send out twice a month. Hope you will join us.
I am having fun looking up the songs that the author mentioned. I think I will have more fun reading the books.
Thanks for stopping by, Roxanne.
